GRC Update: MAMAS Advocacy and Overturned Conviction
Grand Research Challenge Project “Amplifying Mothers of Police Violence Survivors” shared an update from mother and advocate Rosemary Cade, whose son Antonio Porter had been incarcerated for 23 years. Porter and his family have long maintained his innocence and advocated for his freedom.
Late last month, Porter's conviction was vacated by the judge. He has been reunited with his family while he waits for a new trial. ABC7 in Chicago covered the story.
Cade, along with a number of mother-activists in Chicago, is part of the collective Mothers Of The Kidnapped, a group within MAMAS. The GRC “Amplifying Mothers of Police Violence Survivors” is a collaboration between the University of Illinois Chicago and MAMAS (Mothers Activating Movements for Abolition and Solidarity), and led by PI Nadine Naber.
